Miami MC has some choice words for G-Unit general in new song. Cruel intentions or just witty hip-hop referencing? Everyone is talking about Rick Ross’ new record “Mafia Music,” where he name-checks everyone from Shawty Lo and T.I. to Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. For four minutes and 21 seconds, the Ross relentlessly praises his own success and admonishes some of his enemies.
The most notable person he talks about on the record is 50 Cent. “I love to pay ya bills, can’t wait to pay ya rent/ Curtis Jackson baby mama, I ain’t looking for a cent/ Burn the house down,” Ross raps, referring to the “suspicious” fire at a home owned by 50 (in which his son and ex-girlfriend lived) last year. “You gotta buy another/ Don’t forget the gas can, jealous, stupid muthaf—-r.”
It’s not hard to figure out what the G-Unit general thinks about the song: 50′s camp has already posted the track on Thisis50.com and labeled it “50 Cent Dis.” Early in 2008, 50 warned Ross not to stay too close to Fat Joe during the Bronx don’s beef with the G-Unit. Recently, during an interview with MTV News, Ross warned that some of his peers would be catching feelings once “Mafia Music” was leaked.
“It’s titled ‘Mafia Music’ and it’s gonna cause a lot of problems,” he explained. “It’s a scathing four-and-half-minute nonstop flow, me being autobiographical about my life and my come-up and my triumph. Of course, I had to address a few things, I had to address a few people. I love it. The thing is, some people are gonna be — um — they’re gonna be f—ed up. That’s the best way I can put it.” The Miami native also told MTV News that an official single, “I’m the Magnificent” would be coming soon. Ross’ new LP Deeper Than Rap, is due this spring.

Jay-Z has said before that he was gonna retire, and then dropped yet another album. If he did actually retire, what would he do? The rapper recently said that he’s becoming quite the art buff, and if that day of retirement does come, he just may open his own high-end gallery, according to The Mirror UK.
Jay recently revealed that his wifey Beyonce’s love for art has rubbed off on him, and he’s begun collecting a bunch of art pieces. “Bey is really into art and now I am too. I’m building a collection, but at the moment, I am just buying things I like and seeing where it takes me,” said the hip-hop mogul.
“I have a lot of pieces from Damien Hirst and Richard Price — they are incredible artists. … Damien Hirst’s ‘Beat Life, Cheat Death’ piece was inspired by one of my songs, so that was cool,” Jay continued. He added that when the time comes, he might consider opening a gallery. “When I finally hang up the microphone I could even exhibit my own collection.”

After having one of the biggest years in music in ’08 with his multi-platinum Tha Carter III album, Lil Wayne is already prepping his follow up. Titled Rebirth, the new album’s sound may surprise some of Weezy’s fans. MTV News confirmed that the upcoming disc, set for an April 7th release date, will be a rock album.
Earlier this month Wayne’s latest signee, Canadian act Drake, hinted at the New Orleans rapper’s new direction in an interview with Much Music News. “It’s something different in just that whole 808s and Heartbreaks, just throwing individuals off,” he said. Fans can judge it for themselves, as the guitar-heavy first single, “Prom Queen” leaked last night (Jan.25).
As XXLmag.com previously reported, Wayne will be appearing on Katie Couric’s upcoming Grammy special on Feb. 4th at 9 p.m. EST. The self-proclaimed “greatest rapper alive” leads this year’s Grammy nods with 8 nominations, including Album of The Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. Weezy will be performing at the 51st annual Grammy Awards, scheduled to air on February 8th.

Rapper Bow Wow has offered details on his forthcoming clothing line with NBA star Stephon Marbury set to drop next fall. The rapper-turned-actor announced the brand’s name and explained its quality.
“Now, times are harder for parents to go to the mall if they got two kids or three kids and try to buy three pairs of Jordans — I felt it was my responsibility to cater to them and put something in the market place affordable for all people,” Bow Wow said in an interview. “So that’s my way of giving back to my fans and the community. Same quality as a Jordan sneaker, it only cost $26 to make a Jordan shoe, period — right now, it’s Prince Bow which is me. I’m the prince of hip-hop and everyone calls me Bow anyway, so it’s Prince Bow.”
Bow Wow will launch the line of clothing later this year. He recently negotiated a deal with the trailblazing Starbury brand to design a new line featuring clothes, shoes and sneakers for men, women, boys and girls. The collection, which will be both affordable and in line with the latest fashion trends, will be available for sale beginning in November 2009. Consumers will be able to purchase the merchandise at www.starbury.com, www.princebow.com and www.amazon.com.
The young business vet also released his own clothing line in 2003. Just in time for the back-to-school shoppers, Bow Wow’s new Shago clothing line hits stores this week. The apparel is influenced by other rappers’ menswear lines, such as P. Diddy’s Sean John, but is designed for boys and features sizes ranging from 2 to 20, according to Bow Wow’s spokesperson. Shago, which takes its moniker from letters in Bow Wow’s real name, Shad Gregory Moss, includes three collections: Classic, Knight and Racing.

‘This will be a good bookend to the legacy of myself and Pimp,’ Bun said of For Life. Bun B’s “Free Pimp C” campaign ended after the incarcerated half of UGK was released from prison. And in the wake of Pimp’s death in December of 2007, Bun is doing his best to launch an effort to lionize his late partner-in-rhyme.
The veteran rapper told MTV News on Friday (January 23) that UGK’s next — and final — album is ready for release. The project, titled For Life, is scheduled to arrive March 31 on Jive Records. Bun hopes the album will do for Pimp C what Bob Marley’s Legend did for the great Rastafarian star. “This will be a good bookend to the legacy of myself and Pimp,” Bun said. “And definitely take not just the group, but Pimp C, to true legend and iconic status.”
The first single, “Da Game Been Good to Me,” recently appeared online and will be serviced to radio soon. The string-laden track features just the two UGK stars. According to Bun, For Life isn’t likely to feature any outside collaborators. “This album is not about who I wanna work with and what kind of beats I wanna do,” he explained. “This album is about what the people wanna hear, and that’s Bun and Pimp. And I wanna try to give that to them in the most purest sense.”
The album is expected to be pared down to roughly 12 tracks. Among them, in addition to the single, is a song tentatively titled “Marvin,” for the Marvin Gaye sample used in the production. Bun said Pimp, UGK’s main producer, was experimenting with music more and looking to explore new sounds before his death. In previous interviews, Bun spoke on how difficult it would be recording a UGK album without Pimp C.
“I know people will support it, and I know that I’m strong enough to do it,” Bun told Mixtape Monday last January. “Just the point of understanding from here on out, it’s just [me] — I’m probably never gonna be comfortable with it in that sense. It’s just a matter of coming to terms with the reality of it and the finality of the two-man situation in a physical sense.”
As Bun B puts the finishing touches on For Life, the memories of Pimp continue to stay at the forefront of his mind. Planning a video for the album’s release or impending interviews for the project don’t stir emotions much for Bun. When it comes to his UGK cohort, who was more family than musical partner, being reminded of Pimp makes the pain palpable.
“That comes and goes. You don’t need an album, video or songs for that to come out,” he said of his friend’s memory. “I try to tell people all the time: ‘It’s never the big things that you think, it’s the little things.’ Interviews and videos, that don’t do it. But when you see something that you know they would have loved to do or see or buy or drive somewhere they would have loved to go … just [being reminded of] their nature and personality makes you realize they’re not around anymore.”
