This will be the last thing I publish on DaLeak.com about Diddy.
I just received a notification from the RIAA which is a trade group that represents the US recording industry. They stated that I was offering a file, in an interactive streaming format, of a sound recording by the artist known as Diddy and requested its removal.
First of all, the file in question was not made available for download; it was streamed only to be listened to alongside a promotion of Diddy’s upcoming album and group. It gave full credit to Diddy and every artist involved. Second, why should I be threatened for promoting his music?
The US recording industry needs to understand that things are changing. Music has gotten to the point where the quality is so low that listeners demand to hear the track first before they buy that album or attend that concert. Fans will no longer buy an album blindly because there is no guarantee that the quality will be there.
As a hip hop fan and blogger, my intent at DaLeak.com is not to illegally mass distribute music but to stream and share what I believe is great music and news with my readers. I believe that this bottom-up marketing approach is how you weed out the bad music and promote great music within hip hop and other genres. The RIAA, Diddy, and the more traditional parts of the recording industry need to understand this and work more closely with bloggers and the new media soon or they will not survive.
