You right dog. I'm late but i gotta get in... What the industry doesn't understand but the public has figured out is the overhead and barriers to create good music (or bad in most cases these days) are low. If you have talent and a good PC (or MAC) you can produce quality music. They are still tryna market it to us the way they did when they held more of a monopoly. Bloggers and sites like this are the SOLUTION and not the problem...

lol, Leave it to DDotOmen to speak his mind. That's why I love his blog and the fact that he keeps it real. I love Da Leak too don't get it twisted. Fact of the matter is both of you have a point. Look at Souljah Boy, didn't he leak like almost all his music and when he made an album it went platinum I believe, and the biggest example and correct me if I'm wrong, Lil Wayne (love that guy), doesn't he leak his music as well and still goes plantinum. I don't know much about the industry but from what I see, if you wanner get your stuff out and in rotation, you gotta link up with a blogger. Music blogger's such as yourself and DDotOmen are the new Dj's if you think back to when DJ's were the it thing. So I say BLOGGERS RULE, and industry big wigs drool. Keep doing y'all thing reguardless. :)

hahahahah good post DDotOmen. I agree that the RIAA is gradually losing its original purpose.

Artists need to start paying us 30 G's a post. Seriously. In reality, if someone downloads a song from another blog like DDotOmen.com (not here) and becomes a fan, even if he doesn't purchase the album, he may attend a show or purchase merchandise at a later date. A concert ticket is a larger sale than a friggin $10 album. On another note, you now have a fan for life for virtually no cost to the artist or label. Multiply this example across the internet and it can be very powerful and effective. These old dinosaurs that fail to adapt will soon be extinct.

very true Joanna. some artists are even dropping their labels now because (1) they don't need the marketing budget to gather the attention relative to previous years or (2) labels were not willing to make the investment in traditional outlets because they weren't affecting sales again relatively speaking. its a whole new ball game. the numbers can be achieved (Jay-Z BP3 still went platinum) it just needs to be marketed with a lot more emphasis on the grassroots and new media level...

BRAV-FUCKING-O. I've had enough of Diddy period. He's the biggest scumbag in the hip-hop industry and entertainment industry period really.

Also, the RIAA is slowly being phased out, they BARELY serve a purpose as it is. You know what's funny is, the music business is selling MUSIC DIGITALLY ONLINE and expect their not to be drawbacks such as "music leaking" and what not.

It's bogus that some record labels and artists get upset or try to "come after" us when..THIS IS WORK. if it weren't for blogs and websites..the music industry in this day and age would be dead.

I work with A&R's, Label execs and even artists directly and we come to agreements and find middle ground..those who haven't MADE THAT TRANSITION FROM THEIR HIGH HORSE, DOWN TO REALITY NEED TO JUMP OUT OF THEIR OFFICE WINDOWS IN A SWAN DIVE FORMATION.

NEW MEDIA OR DIE!

p.s. FUCK Sean P Diddy Combs and the air that fills his lungs.

i think if any one understands how the industry is changing, it should be Diddy. Without bloggers and other online resources, the music industry would be even worse than it is now. I don't even listen to the radio anymore, what's the point? They play the same shit over and over again. I hear a song on one of my fav websites and then I want to purchase it on itunes or whatever. the game is different. Because of the net, and social sites like twitter, myspace, facebook etc ... the industry will NEVER be the same. Big wigs are no longer needed and soon they won't have a real purpose.

First of all...Diddy's music is way too wack to be on your blog in the first place!! But I will definitely spread the word and make my readers aware of your letter. He should be honored that you were promoting that garbage he calls music. You were doing him a huge favor considering most ppl could care less about his new album. But I too, will also post nothing else about him, after this letter!!
