Common and Nas spoke at BMI’s How I Wrote That Song panel this weekend in L.A. These clips are great for those of us who also write music. I know how Nas feels when he says sometimes you think “I wish I wrote that song.”
On the second clip, it was great to hear that Nas is helping to raise some money for those in Haiti. He also spoke of a new album with Damian Marley called Distant Relatives and a newfound awareness of what he says on a record. Kids will do that to you Nasir! I’ll keep an eye out for more on the album…

Beyonce debuted her latest perfume last night called Heat around Union Square in NYC. Little sister, Solange, was on the 1′s and 2′s hahaha…

Lil Wayne is going to start serving his sentence on February 9th where he will report to Rikers Island. After his release, he plans on dropping The Carter 4, which has already been completed. Check out some excerpts from the Rollingstone cover story…
For a decade, Lil Wayne has been hip-hop’s great unstoppable force, a 24-hour-a-day recording machine without an off button. But on February 9th, Lil Wayne will have to stop — for 12 months, when he reports to prison to serve a sentence for gun possession stemming from a 2007 arrest in New York City. Rolling Stone stays up all night with Weezy as he prepares to get locked down
“I don’t like to stop,” Wayne tells RS‘ Chris Norris. “I believe you stop when you die.” So in the weeks before he reports to Rikers Island, Wayne is keeping busy — recording tracks bound for Tha Carter IV (the album Cash Money staffers call “C4″ because it’ll be the bomb), shooting videos with his Young Money protégés, spending time with his growing family, and deliberately not asking anyone for advice about life on the inside. “This is Lil Wayne going to jail. Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that’s like,” he says. “I just say I’m looking forward to it.”
