Prince of the Port or P.O.P for short, is reppin for all of the Haitian people on this one. Sporting his Blue and Red as well as speaking some native tongue, P.O.P has made a cultural classic. I think that this record has a feel good vibe and is easy to enjoy even if your aren’t Haitian.
I met P.O.P for the first time at a Potent TV party and recently caught up with him again at a video shoot for a mutual friend. As we talked about his music and where he felt he wanted to be in the future, I was impressed. He not only seemed to have a passion for Hip-Hop but for all music. “I grew up listening to calypso, kompa, and country-western music,” he said. I think it’s great for artists to take in their own culture and mix it with Hip-Hop. Who said blue and red don’t look good together…
Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending Rock the Bells 2010. The day started out as an adventure when Ras Kass, Domingo, Daneja, and I decided to go to the event without passes. Which you will hear more about in How Ras Kass got into Rock the Bells. A beautiful New York day gave way to a beautiful night and the it seemed that Hip-hop’s stars shone brighter than the actual stars in the sky.
I had the pleasure of meeting many of my favorite artist last night but I would have to say that Immortal Technique, Kurupt, DJ Premier, and The Lady of Rage were my favorites. They were the most down to Earth wonderful people and it was an honor to be in their presence. A huge thank you to James Blackstone for all his help and for the pictures. Good look James! Also a big thanks to my good friend Ras Kass, Domingo, and Daneja for an amazing time. The footage is coming soon!
Recently, @RickyRozay stopped by NYC to perform alongside Chrisette Michelle at the Summerstage concert in Central Park. I’m actually starting to really like Rick again. I know that his street cred has been questioned but come on… the guy makes great records. I was a little upset that I missed this event since B.M.F and Audio Meth have been getting played often while I’m ridin’ around. Looks like it was quite a show.

J.Cole performed at an exclusive Power 98.3 concert at Hotel Theodore in Scottsdale, AZ last week. I’m so excited to see J.Cole doing his thing and I respect his movement. I hope to see him doing great things in the future. In this clip, he performs the Tupac-esque Losing My Balance…

In 1987 the late Chad Butler aka Pimp C and Bernard Freeman aka Bun B joined forces to create the historical rap duo we now know as UGK. Hit after hit, I took in the street lingo and Texas swag. I never meant to be a pupil. I never meant to be more than an admirer of this slow but steady music that I felt brewed within me. Yet somehow, these two men became a part of me.
Years later as I sat and listened to Bun’s solo projects, I began to respect him as an individual. His words flowed easily and I witnessed a lyrical growth right before my eyes. As a fan and music lover, I was excited to hear where Bun would take Trill O.G. So today as I sat and listened, my heart and ears open, I embraced everything Bun intended this album to be.
I feel that even though Bun kept it Trill, he explored new avenues. In the record titled Let Em Know produced by DJ Premier, I personally feel like he stepped out of his element. East Coast meets Gulf Coast…who knew it could sound so sweet.
On the record titled Just Like That featuring Young Jeezy, the beat is just as hard as the artist! Which is the case for most of Bun’s tracks on this album. However, he slowed it down a bit for a strong collab with Latoya Luckett titled All A Dream.
This album is packed with great collabs, heavy beats, and the Bun B we all know and love. I honestly feel like this is his best work yet and I’m sure he will continue to shine and deliver more hits in the future. If you haven’t heard the album you’re in for a treat. Appearances from artists such as Drake, Yo Gotti & Gucci Mane, Pimp C 2Pac, Trey Songz, and Reakwon make Trill O.G. more than worth your buck.

I had the opportunity to catch this amazing MC live last Thursday during a trip to Cali. There is no doubt about it that he is loved by his fans. In fact Ras took the time after to speak to every fan and take pictures with the whole crowd. I was a little disappointed that my battery died and I missed my favorite song, Goldyn Chyld, but being there was good enough. I did however catch some more Rasy faves like Eat Or Die and Home Sweet Home to share with you. His energy was incredible. He was so calm, cool, and confident, I have nothing but love and respect for him and the music that he makes.
A day or two before the release of A.D.I.D.A.S, I sat down with Ras to hear each track. His eyes lit up as he played each one for me and spoke about where he was coming from or what exactly his words meant. His lyrics are clever and intended to make the listener think. His love for music as a whole is evident even in the way he speaks. I learned a lot from him and as a fan and friend, I have to say that A.D.I.D.A.S is soon to be a Hip-Hop classic. If you haven’t checked out the album your missing out. Download it now…

This shit right here is what the game has been missing. Some of Hip-Hop finest together and showing true lyrical talent. I haven’t seen a video that actually left me feeling educated in…well…never!
The HRSMN consist of 4 MC’s. In order of appearance they are Ras Kass, Killah Priest, Canibus, and Kurupt. This super group was named after The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I feel it’s fitting that these HRSMN have come at our time of Revelation. I Love it. Pure Genius!

The Goldyn Child, Ras Kass is back with the second single from the highly anticipated A.D.I.D.A.S album. Goldyn Chyld features Ras’ long time friend DJ Rhettmatic. I thought the vampire references were hot…a little dark Rasy. I like that. One of the illest MC’s in the game!
