Magazines: Rick Ross & Wale cover Billboard Magazine

Co-signed by on Nov 25 2011 in Magazines.

@RickyRozay & @Wale appear on the cover of the latest issue of Billboard. Check out some excerpts below…

Rick Ross talking about his album title God Forgives I Dont:

“This album is almost like a movie,” Ross says. “I wanted [the title] to be something that was extremely emotional, to set up a real roller coaster ride as far as the music and thought process. It sounds like a term of retaliation, and with the picture that I’m painting, it felt perfect.”

Ross on being clutch:

“I understand why New York’s a huge fan of Derek Jeter — because in the playoffs he always delivered, he always came through,” Ross says. “And that’s what it is when it comes to big records, big collaborations. I was fortunate last year to have a run with the biggest names in the game”.

Magazines: Eminem & Yelawolf cover December issue of Vibe Magazine

Co-signed by on Nov 18 2011 in Magazines.

@Eminem & @Yelawolf cover @VibeMagazine’s December issue about whether or not hip hop is finally color blind. This issue hits newsstands on Dec 6 and will feature a split cover with T.I.

Eminem, what advice do you offer, if any, on being scrutinized for being a white rapper. Do you guys ever talk about race in that way?

Eminem: We make jokes about it, but I don’t think we talk about it in depth. As I was listening to his music, I am not even thinking about any of that shit. It’s just the music. That’s one of the things that’s great about it. I’m not even thinking about it when I hear the music.
Yelawolf: We do poke fun of it because it’s funny. Like, he calls me White Dog.

Oh, you called him that on the BET Awards Cypher. I didn’t realize it was an ongoing joke?

EM: Yeah, or Beige Sheep. [Laughs]
YW: Cracker Nuts. Whatever, I think it’s kinda unspoken.
EM: We deal with it enough as it is. So now, let’s make music.
YW: Let’s make great records. At the end of the day, that’s all there is to do.

When I was a kid trying to figure out what I liked, it was [Kanye] who I related to the most. He was an artist, in every sense, from his cover art to his music. Now, I would say he was a really great competitor….

Magazines: Nas covers November issue of XXL

Co-signed by on Oct 12 2011 in Magazines.

@Nas appears on the November issue of XXL where he talks about celebrating a solid 20 years in hip hop.

“Dawg, I was naming my album Life Is Good because of how happy I am about how happy things have turned out,” Nas answered. “Sometimes I may wake up and wish my kids were living with me. That’s the only thing, you know what I mean? Our loved ones that are not around no more, like my mom. That’s the only thing. But other than that, everything is great, even when I’m alone. Even when there’s no one around.”

Magazines: Lil Wayne covers October issue of Vibe Magazine

Co-signed by on Sep 29 2011 in Magazines.

@LilTunechi covers next month’s issue of @VibeMagazine after selling a million copies of Tha Carter 4 in 7 friggin days. Check out an excerpt below:

“There’s no competition [with any artists]. Music isn’t about competition no more. All the gangster rappers are happy, all the skateboard rappers are happy, all the white rappers are happy… Everybody just happy to do music these days. There are no problems. That shit died a long time ago with them old-ass rappers. We are just making music, making money and having fun feeding our families. Competition is for the old guys.”

VIBE: You say competition is for the “old guys,” but it sounds like you’re going at Jay-Z with that line, “I got your baby money/Kidnap your bitch, get that how-much-you-love-your-lady money.” Are we looking at it the wrong way?

LIL WAYNE: I know for a fact, music is about perception. You can’t do anything but perceive what you hear. If I know that for a fact, I can never be upset about someone’s reaction to it. I’m not gonna say I don’t know what will happen before I say it [on record]. I do know what will happen. I am aware of it. It is what it is.

Magazines: Kid Cudi & Kreayshawn cover October issue of Complex Magazine

Co-signed by on Sep 20 2011 in Magazines.

@WizardCud & @Kreayshawn share the cover of the October issue of Complex for what promises to be a pretty controversial issue. This magazine is scheduled to hit newsstands on Oct 4.

Kid Cudi excerpt:

Is that drug hangover why you disappeared after you released your second album?
I wanted to clear my head, besides detox. I had to look at the root of the whole problem, and that was work and the business.

How so?
I wasn’t trying to hear it from nobody. I’m not even going to attack the people in my life that didn’t step in and try to stop it, ’cause I was just so bullheaded. There’s no way to slow somebody when they’re speeding down a path of destruction.

I thought I was dealing with it in the proper way. I was in the moment. And when you’re that young, with that opportunity, all that money, and all that respect and power, sometimes you run with it. ’Cause I was like, “Man, you don’t know if this shit’s gon’ be here tomorrow.”

Kreayshawn excerpt:

“I never made anything with the intention of signing a record deal,” she says. “It was just for fun. The moment I realized I could get a record deal, was when I got a record deal. I didn’t see myself getting famous.”

“People say, ‘You’re changing the game,’” she continues. “I’m just being me. This is what I’ve been doing.” Whatever it is, it’s worked—so far. But can she keep it up now that she’s been mainstreamed? Stay tuned.

Magazines: Jay-Z covers the October issue of The Source

Co-signed by on Sep 14 2011 in Magazines.

For the 10th anniversary of @S_C_’s The Blueprint album, The Source pays its respect by dedicating their cover to this classic. This collector’s edition issue hits newsstands on Sept 20.

“After his classic 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt, ignited the streets, dazzled the critics, but didn’t move enough units, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter scrapped his bad marketing plan for a one-album discography and decided to drop a new masterful work each and every year. He emerged center stage with a fervent desire to be #1 in the post “Pac-Biggie” era. No MC ever wanted the throne as much as Hov. If consistency kills, he was the Son of Sam, and by the time he got to his sixth album, his frustrated competitors were firing shots back.”
